The show revolves around the lives of a group of contestants who are struggling with their weight and ultimately lose it all in hopes of winning a large cash prize in addition to gaining their health and self confidence back. Many members of Riverside have been inspired by this show to begin a challenge of our own and we’re excited to announce the details!

Who can participate?

Anybody looking to join the group of Losers is welcome, no matter how much or how little you have to lose. Everyone can benefit from the motivation and support of being a part of this group. Weigh-Ins will be completely private and we won’t publish numbers, only percentages and weight loss. There will even be a cash prize for the winner!

How long will it last?

We want to encourage everyone to lose weight at a healthy pace and give enough time for all to be successful. The challenge will begin one week after Easter on April 19th with an initial weigh-in after the service concludes. No sign-up is necessary, just show up. The challenge will go all the way until our annual Outdoor Festival in September giving you roughly 5 months.

All the details

This contest will be a fundraiser for our annual Outdoor Festival and feature a grand prize of half of the proceeds split between the winner of a Men’s bracket and a Women’s bracket. All are free to participate but in order to be eligible for the prize you will need to raise $50, which shouldn’t be that hard by getting a few people to sponsor you for $0.50-$1/per pound lost. The more people who participate, the larger the prize.

We will meet once per month to weigh in and give updates to everyone on our progress as well as share any tips, news, and ideas for the group. We will also have events throughout the summer to promote physical activity.

The winners will be chosen based on two factors. 50% of your score will come from total weight loss measured in body fat percentages. The other 50% of your score will be based on the outcome of a Final Challenge at the Outdoor Festival in September. This timed challenge will include running and biking as well as outdoor activities. Winners of the Biggest Losers challenge will be announced and awards handed out at the evening ceremonies of the Outdoor Festival.

This is the second event in which One Ambition has participated. There was a real presence on Sunday night. The speaker, Josh Davis, a music major from Longwood University, was spot on and full of energy. He referenced quite a bit of scripture but made it relative and fun filled for us all. One Ambition rocked the house and brought the spirit of God with them. They were very well received and gained quite a few fans that night. You can tell that One Ambition enjoys what they do and gives all of the Glory to God while remaining confident and appealing to the next generation. Overall it was an uplifting event and a renewing of the Spirit and Fire that our Lord and Savior instills within us.One AmbtionSunday Saint-One Ambition click here to listen

Riverside Church begins a timely new series March 15, “And the Angels Were Silent”. We will be roughly following Max Lucado’s book of that title on the last week of Jesus’ ministry in Jerusalem. This series will help us spiritually set the stage for Easter on April 12.

The festivities begin at 6pm with kickoff coming at 7pm. Bring yourself, bring a friend, and if possible bring a snack or dish for everyone to enjoy. See you at the game!
